Future will be Measured in Nanometers
Professor of Emerging Technologies, MIT.nano Founding Director
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts USA
The Nano Age is upon us. Advancements of the last decade have yielded much-anticipated tools that let us chart and engineer the nanoscale of materials and structures with unprecedented precision, enabling us to launch the next innovation age. With nanoscale advancements, we are reimagining health and life sciences, energy, computing, information technology, built environment, manufacturing, and quantum science. That is because nano is not a specific technology. It does not belong to a particular industry or discipline. It is, rather, a revolutionary way of understanding and working with matter, and it will enable us to craft a better world. We must engage, inspire, and enable our greatest minds and hands to push the boundaries of nanoscale discoveries in service to all. MIT and Tec de Monterrey are joined in that mission.
Tec de Monterrey is a close partner of MIT.nano, a research center for nanoscience and nanotechnology located at the heart of the MIT campus. Opened in 2018, MIT.nano is designed to bring together the collective creative power of MIT researchers and our global partners. MIT.nano is shaped as a comprehensive 20,000 m2 shared facility, designed to give researchers and innovators access to a broad and versatile toolset that can do more -- from imaging to synthesis, fabbing, and prototyping -- entirely within the facility’s protective envelope. On the top floor of MIT.nano, a versatile suite of prototyping labs is further designed to support incubation and initial growth of start-up-companies. There, inventors can translate nano-scale advancements into hand-held systems, transitioning academic pursuits into prototypes for a better world. In his talk, Bulović will describe the latest works of MIT’s discoveries. He will share his vision for the innovation journey that Tec de Monterrey and MIT are taking together, delivering breakthrough solutions and spurring public narratives that can define our time.
